How Much Does a Bassoon Repair Cost?

At Woodwind London, one of the most common questions we get is: “How much does a bassoon repair cost?” The answer varies, since no two bassoons are alike — we need to examine the instrument in person before providing an accurate quote. Still, there are a few key factors that typically influence repair costs.

The age and condition of the bassoon are major considerations: older wooden bodies can develop cracks or warping, while bocals may suffer from leaks or corrosion. Pads and corks inevitably wear down over time, leading to air leaks, and springs can lose tension, affecting key action. Bassoons also have long, complex mechanisms with many joints, so even minor misalignments can impact playability. How regularly the instrument has been serviced is equally important — consistent maintenance (every 18–24 months) helps prevent issues from escalating into expensive overhauls. Finally, the model and level of bassoon play a part: student instruments often use less durable materials and need more frequent adjustments, while professional models require precision care and higher quality replacement parts, which can cost more but provide long-lasting results.

The best way to understand the cost for your instrument is to book a bassoon assessment at our London workshop, where our experienced technicians can give you a detailed estimate and tailored service plan.
