How Long Does It Take to Pass ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory?

Preparing for ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory can involve a short period of focused revision or a longer programme of lessons. It depends on your existing knowledge and how much practice you can do between sessions.

Is a music theory crash course suitable?

A crash course can help students who want structured exam preparation, particularly those whose theory knowledge hasn’t kept pace with their instrumental playing.

You don’t need to have passed Grades 1–4 before taking Grade 5, but you do need to understand the foundations covered at those levels. An initial assessment helps identify what you already know and where you need support.

How many lessons will I need?

At Woodwind London, a full crash course includes seven 45-minute lessons, arranged around your availability. Individual sessions are also available for targeted revision.

Some students need additional preparation. Homework and mock exams help Ed assess your progress and advise when you’re ready to book the exam.
