All of her students who have taken ABRSM examinations have attained either a Distinction or a Merit and a couple of them are also seriously considering pursuing music in Conservatory.
Her students range from 7 to 60 years old, with some learning the oboe to take graded examinations and others learning the instrument as a hobby. Over time, she has gained significant experience in helping students of different ages and standards overcome technical difficulties, thereby significantly improving their playing. London Oboe Teachers - Frequently Asked Questions
-
The cost of an oboe lesson in London varies depending on the teacher’s experience, lesson length and whether it’s at the teacher’s studio or your home (or online). As a rough guideline, many private instrumental teachers aim to meet or exceed the minimum rate set by the Musicians’ Union. On our site you’ll find each teacher lists their hourly rate, travel information and any concession pricing.
-
You can begin oboe lessons at many ages — children (often around 8-10 years old once they have sufficient lung control and hand size) through to adults. What matters most is finding a teacher who can tailor instruction to your age, physical development and musical goals. For adults, flexibility, discipline and musical interest can make for very rewarding lessons.

Like all woodwind instruments, the oboe presents its own challenges. You’ll need to develop breath control, embouchure (mouth shape), finger dexterity, reed awareness and reading of music. However, if you practise regularly and work with a teacher who helps you progress in manageable steps, you’ll make steady progress. One of the advantages of the oboe is its expressiveness and distinctive sound, which means small improvements can yield rewarding musical results.

If you don’t have an oboe yet, don’t worry — you can easily get started. Woodwind London offers oboe rentals at affordable prices, allowing you to begin lessons without committing to buying an instrument straight away. Renting is a great way to try the oboe and see which model suits you best. Your teacher can help you choose the right size and setup, and advise when it might be time to consider purchasing your own instrument later on.
